Rear-Projection TVs

Rear projection TVs come in a variety of flavors. For more and more people, 'big screen' is synoymous with 'flat panel' these days, and, if you don't need an extremely shallow wall mounting or profile, rear projection is a viable option.

It may come as a surprise, but rear projection TVs are typically just 11 to 18 inches deep - not much more than stand-mounted LCD or plasma models. And, pixel for pixel, they usually weigh less (only a few weigh in at more than 100 pounds). What's more, very large RPTVs, (50 inches plus), usually cost less than plasma or LCD.

Yes, when it comes to TVs, big is coming of age, and it doesn't necessarily mean bulk any more. Modern microdisplay technologies - LCD, LCoS and DLP - deliver excellent high-definition display, and the cabinets are considerably lighter and smaller than those old CRT rear-projection TVs you may be familiar with.
